I havent tried to connect with many supposed matches, but I did have some really interesting ones. One was a first cousin I havent seen in years. Two others were third cousins. The most interesting is a fourth cousin related to me thru my grandpa's mother. Granpa's name was on her list! I even met someone on the other side of the family. I'd given up on finding info on them.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05805481860280636932noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-434701420960162731.post-11482992260917670472018-10-24T14:29:13.211+01:002018-10-24T14:29:13.211+01:00I was surprised that what I thought was my Irish a...I was surprised that what I thought was my Irish ancestry was only 17 percent "Ireland, Scotland, Wales" while 37 percent Great Britain, which encompasses Ireland, Scotland and Wales???? I also have 27 percent Scandinavian, which makes sense as mom heritage, as far as she knew was Sweden and wales. It appears that a lot of my DNA comes from mom. Dad, on the other hand, is first generation Irish, both parents were Irish and comes from a long line of Irish with both parents. I had thought that I would be more Irish because of that.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01693989033287086006noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-434701420960162731.post-9594606226510261932018-09-02T21:47:09.923+01:002018-09-02T21:47:09.923+01:00My ethnicity estimate is 45% Great Britain, 20% Sc...My ethnicity estimate is 45% Great Britain, 20% Scandinavia, 10% Europe West, 9% Ireland/Scotland/Wales and 8% Europe South. My low confidence is 5% Iberian Peninsula, 2% Europe East and 1% Africa South-Central Hunter-Gatherers.
Most of my fathers maternal family were British. Found my Baker line on Maternal side British also. Grandmother, who was a Murray confirmed my Ireland roots. My maternal grandfather was of Swedish descent and confirmed that back to ancestors in 1650. Not sure about the Europe East, Europe South, Iberian Peninsula and Africa yet. My paternal grandfather did not know who his father was, but thanks to DNA, I think I have found him. I have been in contact with his granddaughter and all signs point to him. Waiting on my male cousin and her nephew to confirm the match with Y-DNA. For me, the Ancestry DNA has been spot on. Maybe confirming that match will make all the others fall into place. Mine says, 31% Great Britain, 21% Europe West, 17% Ireland, Scotland, Wales (which Scotland and Wales is also included in "Great Britain" breakdown so not sure why they are separate?), 13 Scandinavia, and 11% Iberian!! I mean seriously...I would have loved more than 50% ANYTHING...or even close to 50%...I guess I will have to assume Scottish/Welsh/Irish since those areas are listed in two of the higher categories...however, my percentage of Europe West, being Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Liechtenstein is pretty high (not the overall % listed) but in the actual breakdown (48% for natives and me at 41%). I'm soooo confused by it all and would love a more definitive answer. My Grandmother (Collins) GGrandmother (Bradley) GGGrandmother (O'Hanlon) GGGGrandmother (McIver). So I was confused. I was determined to be 78% British which seemed rather high due to the fact that those who have lived there for hundreds and hundreds of years are 35%-40%. So I searched my ancestry records to solve my confusion. In the 1600's, My 9th Great Grandfather, Matthew Canfield (Camfield) left England to help settle the Colonies in the new world. He was co-founder of Newark, New Jersey and Norwalk, Connecticut. So, for almost 250 years, his line married British - those who came over and their descendants. The only other option was French fur traders or American Indians. (Sad to say I have no American Indian in me). The marriage of the Canfields to Irish Women happened in the 1800's. Hence my low percentage of Irish and the fact that my British line stayed relatively pure. Fascinating stuff!Cathy Rathbunhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04430589209228776021noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-434701420960162731.post-5173544117610078742017-12-24T05:26:35.380+00:002017-12-24T05:26:35.380+00:00I recently spoke with my sister.
