When Christmas was cancelled

The National Archives has a blog post online explaining how Oliver Cromwell's godly or parliamentary party abolished Christmas in the 1640s, only for that ban to be eventually lifted by Charles II following the Restoration in 1660.

It's an interesting read at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/news/649.htm. You'll find a bit more also at www.olivercromwell.org/faqs4.htm
