'Post imperial angst' kills Bristol museum

Sir Neil Cossons, chairman of the Bristol based British Empire and Commonwealth Museum's board of trustees, has apparently blamed the permanent closure of the museum on "post-imperial angst". The museum had hoped to move to London following its closure in 2008, but unable to raise the appropriate funds its collections have now been donated to Bristol Museum. Basically Sir Neil is saying that right now we don't like what we see in our recent past - "I think the time has not yet arrived for the proper story of Empire and Commonwealth to be told" - with British colonialism being an "unfashionable subject".
