19th century Irish prisoners photographs

Two photograph albums containing just over 150 images of prisoners imprisoned within Mountjoy Prison, Dublin, in both 1857 and 1866, have been digitised and placed online by New York Public Library. The collection is sourced from two albums once owned by Sir Thomas Aiskew Larcom (1801-1879), the UK's permanent Under Secretary for Ireland from 1853-1869. The images are identified mainly as felons and Fenian political prisoners, and include some of the leaders of the Fenian Brotherhood the Irish Republican Brotherhood.

  1. It's a shame they don't have any names.

  2. Exactly what I was thinking Aidan. Why don't they have names? Seems to me to be an insult.
