Scottish independence

Today is quite a historic day for Scotland and the UK, in that agreement has been reached between Westminster and Edinburgh that Scotland will be given a chance to vote for continued membership of the UK, or to opt out and become independent once again. That's one to be slugged out over the next two years - will powerful political argument sway the population to one side or the other, will military anniversaries such as 1914 or 1314 prove to be the more influential, will sport be a decisive factor in 2014 as it has been claimed for 2012, will anybody even care after 2 years of it in the headlines?

A few months back though I ran a post on my other blog about some possible family history implications if Scotland was to go independent, which can be read at http://walkingineternity.blogspot.co.uk/2012/01/scottish-independence.html. I've cited examples including the Republic of Ireland and Australia in terms of records access etc, which may be of interest.

But what of British GENES? Come what may, it's not going anywhere! The blog deals with stories from the British Isles, and Scotland will still be on the island of Britain whatever happens - so no need to come up with a new adjective!
