YFH Archive and Volunteer 2012 awards

Two announcements from Your Family History magazine (www.your-familyhistory.com), courtesy of Philippa McCray at the Federation of Family History Societies (www.ffhs.org.uk):

Volunteer of the Year Award 2012

Your Family History Magazine would like to inform you about Volunteer of the Year Award 2012. The aim of the competition is to help acknowledge the incredible work undertaken by volunteers throughout the family history sector, whether they are indexers and transcribers; committee members or assist at family history events. The magazine is asking readers and members of the public to nominate their Volunteer of the Year.

You are invited to send in your nominations, stating the name of the volunteer; the organisation(s) they work for; and, in no more than 250 words, the reason for their nomination. The closing date for nominations will be 31 December 2012, to give our judges sufficient time to consider the potential candidates. We will then present the winner with their award at Who Do You Think You Are Live 2013.

Nominations can be made online at www.your-familyhistory.com, or via email to marketing@your-familyhistory.com. Nominations are not restricted to residents within the UK, but please note that winners need to make their own travel arrangements to Who Do You Think You Are Live 2013 in London.

Archive of the Year Award 2012

Your Family History magazine would like to inform you about their Archive of the Year Award 2012. The aim of the competition is to help raise awareness of the plight of our local services and would like to get your archive involved.

The magazine is asking readers and members of the public to nominate their Archive of the Year. If you feel that your local archive or study centre excels in the service it provides, let them know!

The judging panel would like to hear about the service provided by the staff; the facilities in the search rooms; the accessibility and quality of the catalogue and finding aids; the range of services provided online, including access to digitised records; the range of documents available for consultation; connections with the local community; and facilities for disabled people.

Nominations are restricted to UK county or municipal record offices; local study centres; specialist and regional archives; and university or library manuscript collections.

The winner will be presented with the award at the Who Do You Think You Are? LIVE show in London next year.
