Signed up for Unlock the Past's 4th genealogy cruise

I recently blogged that Australian based Unlock the Past (www.unlockthepast.com.au) is considering the idea of starting its fifth genealogy cruise in 2015 from Southampton for a Baltic voyage (see http://britishgenes.blogspot.co.uk/2012/12/uk-genealogy-cruise-planned-for-2015.html). The company's third cruise is shortly to set off for Fiji - which leaves one cruise in between...

The fourth Unlock the Past History and Genealogy Cruise is scheduled to take place around southern Australia from February 4th-13th 2014, setting off on a circular trip from Sydney and taking in Melbourne, Adelaide and Hobart along the way, before returning to Sydney. Two overseas presenters have been signed up so far - Chicago based genealogist and genea-tech guru Thomas MacEntee, and some fella by the name of Paton from Scotland! Additional presenters will also be announced in due course.

Prospective plans for the cruise are already online at www.unlockthepast.com.au/events/4th-unlock-past-history-genealogy-cruise but the organisers are also setting aside a few presentation slots for anybody who is booking on the cruise who may fancy giving a paid presentation also. A call for papers on that front is now online also - for further details see Alona Tester's Gould Genealogy blog at www.gouldgenealogy.com/2012/12/unlock-the-pasts-4th-history-genealogy-cruise-is-announced-calls-for-papers/.

I was a speaker on the second Unlock the Past Cruise last year (see above link announcing the 5th cruise for links to my blog posts on that), and had a lot of fun, not only on the cruise but on various shore based stops. I'm told the vessel this time, the Royal Caribbean operated Voyager of the Seas, is twice the size of the Volendam (the vessel on the 2nd cruise), and with state of the art conference facilities, so I suspect this event will be even bigger and better!

Very much looking forward to a return trip to Oz - hopefully I'll see a few of you there...!

  1. Chris,

I think the date caption on your map should be 2014 for the Tasmania Cruise. The 2013 cruise is going to Fiji and Noumea, New Caledonia unless someone has changed the cruise and forgotten to tell me.
