Ancestry adds Manchester records

Ancestry (www.ancestry.co.uk) has added the following major collections concerning Manchester in England (numbers of records in brackets after each collection):

  • Manchester, England, Deaths and Burials, 1813-1985 (917791)
  • Manchester, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1573-1812 (Cathedral) (376533)

  • Manchester, England, Baptisms, Marriages and Burials, 1541-1812 (1186882)

The parish records concern the diocese of Manchester and so include material for Manchester, Salford, Bolton, Rochdale, Stretford and Trafford, Ashton-under-Lyne, Oldham, Leigh and Rossendale. The cathedral material has been sourced from Manchester Cathedral itself, the rest is courtesy of the Anglican Parish Registers collection at Manchester Libraries, Information and Archives.

Note the following message from Manchester Cathedral in the source notes: "At the request of the Manchester Diocese it is highlighted that the use of images for retrospective or proxy baptism is not permitted." Ahem...!

  1. Thanks for this heads up Chris. Just found my husband's 2x great grandmother's baptism, an Annie Jones no less and thus hard to find in any other way. I'm looking forward to tracking the rest of the Jones/Bailey family in this fantastic record set.
