Irish National Roll of Honour joins FindmyPast Ireland

FindmyPast Ireland (www.findmypast.ie) has added the Irish National Roll of Honour to its site, with a few enhancements to previous versions that have been available. Here's the announcement from www.findmypast.ie/articles/news/15000-new-irish-military-records-added:

The National Roll of Honour 1914-1921 gives details of Irishmen who died serving in the British Army during the First World War. Also included are those soldiers who died in the three years after the end of the war.

The database of transcripts has been created from all known available references and databases for Irish casualties published before 1922 including books, newspapers, periodicals and existing records. They have also been cross-referenced with the 1901 and 1911 censuses to provide a more precise list of Irish casualties for this period than was previously available to family historians.

Supplementary information included in the transcripts, including newspaper obituaries and often-graphic letters home from the Front Line bring these records to life.

With over 15,000 detailed entries and more to come, the National Roll of Honour 1914-1921 is a rich resource for those with Irish ancestors who served in the Great War and beyond.

I've just had a look and already found a newspaper citation for the record of one of my wife's great uncles from Tipperary, so looks like it could be potentially full of some useful goodies. A full press announcement on the collection is also available at http://blog.findmypast.com/2013/08/02/new-records-irelands-national-roll-of-honour-1914-1921/.

Note that all international versions of FindmyPast, with the exception of the British version, provide access at present - it "will be added to findmypast.co.uk soon". However, from what I can see, the collection available just now only includes entries from the Republic of Ireland.

(With thanks to FMP Ireland)
