Scotland's oldest family firms

Scotland's oldest family firms have been revealed in a report by Family Business United and Close Brothers Asset Management (CBAM). The oldest is said to be Fife-based John White & Son Ltd, which was first established in 1715.

  1. "Oldest Firms"? Not quite - the firms mentioned in the report are the oldest *family* firms. I always thought that one of the oldest "firms" (probably depends what you mean by that) was the delightfully named "Shore Porters Society" of Aberdeen, established in 1498 (see http://www.shoreporters.com/shore-porters-history.php) though I'm not sure why I think that...
