Forthcoming Oxfordshire based First World War conference

News of a First World War conference to be held by Oxfordshire Family History Society (http://ofhs.org.uk) and the Federation of Family History Societies (www.ffhs.org.uk):

Pip, Squeak and Wilfred – the record legacy of 1914-1918
Saturday 28 June 2014 at the Marlborough School, Woodstock, OX20 1LP

On 28 June 1914, Archduke Ferdinand was assassinated in Sarajevo... and the world went to war.On Saturday 28 June 2014 Oxfordshire Family History Society is holding a one-day conference as part of the general and growing interest surrounding the centenary of the First World War and supported by the Federation of Family History Societies' 40th Anniversary sponsorship programme. Our plan for the day is to highlight some of the less obvious records of the period without ignoring the most obvious - medals and service records.

For just £10/head we have five good talks by five good speakers. Talks will cover the medals and medal cards, the ongoing discovery of (and identification of) memorabilia, and a plethora of other aspects of the record legacy from the period. There will be speakers from the National Archives as well as from academia and the family history world.

The day is being sponsored by both Oxfordshire FHS and the Federation of Family History Societies. We'll provide tea and coffee, you bring your own lunch and the cost of the day is just £10/person.

NB there is nowhere close by to buy lunch!

Have a look at the day's programme (see http://news.ofhs.org.uk/psw/the-programme-for-pip-squeak-and-wilfred/) and then book here (see http://news.ofhs.org.uk/psw/book-a-place-at-pip-squeak-and-wilfred/)!

We look forward to meeting you, your friends and your memorabilia on 28 June.
