Blogger Claire Santry is reporting a major step forward in the Republic of Ireland's continuing mission to digitise important datasets useful for genealogy research - in this case, the country's valuation revision books (aka the cancelled land books in the south). These are the 'follow on' books from Griffiths Valuation, which record subsequent changes to land ownership since that valuation was recorded in the mid-19th century.
The Valuation Office in Dublin has put a tender out for the project, but how it will eventually be manifested online is still to be confirmed. Nevertheless, this is major news - not last because the equivalent books for Northern Ireland, held at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland in Belfast, have already been placed online at www.proni.gov.uk.
