The Original Record update

I've not heard from this site for quite a while, and had almost forgotten about it - but The Original Record at www.theoriginalrecord.com, whilst expensive I suspect for most users, and not particularly user friendly, does still have some useful records worth looking at, particularly for English based research. The following is an announcement of some recent additions:

1801-1803
Apprentices and their masters: England and Wales
Apprenticeship indentures and clerks' articles were subject to a 6d or 12d per pound stamp duty: the registers of the payments usually give the master's trade, address, and occupation, and the apprentice's name, as well as details of the date and length of the apprenticeship. There are central registers for collections of the stamp duty in London, as well as returns from collectors in the provinces. These collectors generally received duty just from their own county, but sometimes from further afield. The indentures themselves can date from a year or two earlier than these returns. Each entry has two scans, the other being the facing page with the details of the indenture, length of service, and payment of duty.) IR 1/70

1848
Berkshire Land Tax Commissioners
'An Act to appoint additional Commissioners for executing the Acts for granting a Land Tax and other Rates and Taxes', 11 & 12 Vic. c. 62, 14 August 1848, lists the new commissioners county by county and borough by borough, giving full name, with addresses in italics. Where part of a county lay, for taxation purposes, within a borough &c., the list of new commissioners for the rural portion is headed 'For the Rest of the County of ...'.

1850
Bedfordshire Missionary Contributions
The monthly Missionary Magazine and Chronicle listed contributions to the London Missionary Society received from individuals and through the auxiliaries. The issues for 1850 covered contributions received from 1 November 1849 to 31 October 1850.

1853
Customs Officers of the Port of London
The list of customs officers at the Port of London, arranged by department and rank, corrected to 5 January 1853.
