The UK Government at Westminster has ruled out imposing fees on Freedom of Information requests. The legislation passed in 2000 occasionally comes in handy for genealogical purposes - for example, FOI requests can be used to secure access to the 1939 National Identity Register in Northern Ireland at no cost. A separate FOI (Scotland) Act was also passed in 2002 for issues specifically under the remit of our government here in Holyrood.)
