British Government military medals review

The British Government has instituted a review to examine the rules surrounding the issuing of military medals, most notably with campaign medals and the current conditions surrounding  the '5 years rule', which prohibits the issuing of new campaign medals 5 years after a potentially meritorious event happened, nor to individuals for an individual act after the same duration The review is being led by Sir John Holmes, the UN's Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Co-ordinator. Those currently serving in the forces as well as veterans are invited to submit views.

For further information on the review, and for details on how to participate, visit the Royal Navy website at www.royalnavy.mod.uk/News-and-Events/Latest-News/2012/May/17/120517-Medal-Review
