Thanks to Jackie Depelle for passing on the following article concerning the British Library's Newspaper Archive at Boston Spa in Yorkshire. The peg for the story is that the site is now allowing on site access to legal deposit books and serials held at the Boston Spa site, but as a summary of how the facility works - including details of free wifi, an onsite canteen, and some brilliant photos - it's the best overview of the facility that I have read yet (and a facility which it is now becoming criminal that I have yet to visit!).
