FamilySearch (www.familysearch.org) has added a new database:
England and Wales, National Index of Wills and Administrations, 1858-1957
https://www.familysearch.org/search/collection/2451051
This collection is the National Probate Calendar for England and Wales, it is an index to wills and administrations from 1858-1957.
The National Probate Calendar is the English and Welsh equivalent of Scotland's Calendars of Confirmations and Inventories, with the confirmation process down south known as 'probate'.
FamilySearch's index is free to search, but to view an image for further details you will need to visit a LDS family history centre, or affiliate centre.
UPDATE: Thanks to David Wharton via The GENES Blog facebook page, for the following important additional point:
"And they have also indexed the Executors or Administrators, incorrectly described as Beneficiaries [although they might also be one]. They give the deceased's name and the probate date, so it is then easy to go to the official site probatesearch.service.gov.uk to see the index. For 1858 to 1925 you can see the actual registered copy of the will at a Family Search Library."
