Update on Worcestershire Archives cuts

Further to the post I made on Sunday with a link to a petition to save Worcestershire Archives from a series of devastating funding cuts by Worcestershire County Council (see https://britishgenes.blogspot.com/2019/01/save-worcestershire-archives-petition.html), the Council has now announced it will reduce the amount of cuts that are to be imposed.

Having intended to reduce funding from £700,000 to £295,000, it will now reduce the funds by £250,000 next year. This follows a previous cut in 2010 from £1.2 million to the current £700,000. The final budget will be confirmed in February.

The full story is at https://www.worcesternews.co.uk/news/17387008.county-council-announces-u-turn-over-archive-budget-cuts-as-bishop-of-worcester-criticises-plan/.

The petition is still live at https://www.ipetitions.com/petition/save-the-worcestershire-archives.
