New search form layout coming on Ancestry

Ancestry is tinkering with its site again, this time with its search forms. The American version's blog at provides a run through of the changes. I can't comment on their use personally yet, as they aren't yet implemented on the UK site, though it seems to be more cosmetic than a fundamental change to the function of the search facility.

A 5 minute walk through of the changes is available at and also shown below:

(With thanks to the blog)

My next Scotland 1750-1850: Beyond the Old Parish Records online course starts on November 5th, and runs for 5 weeks, priced at £45.99. Spaces are still available - see

  1. I experienced a new view the other night. Every so many searches you get the new one. All is not good. I was using 1911 England census and on the 'about' page for my person, two persons were missing from the household. The missing were the two youngest children. They are in the full image. There was no section downwards arrow that I could see in case they hidden below the allocated space. They were quite simply missing.
