Marion Gilchrist commemoration

An exhibition is to open in Bothwell to commemorate Marion Gilchrist, Glasgow University's first female graduate and the first woman to gain a medical degree in Scotland. She was born in Bothwell in 1864, and as well as her academic achievement was also an active suffragette in the west of the country. She passed away in 1952.

Glasgow University has the story at www.gla.ac.uk/news/headline_227518_en.html. The commemoration event itself will take place at Bothwell Public Library, Main Street, Bothwell at 7.30pm, 14 March 2012.
