TheGenealogist (www.thegenealogist.co.uk) has expanded its Education records collection:
New School and University Registers on TheGenealogist
As children go back to school, TheGenealogist has just released a diverse batch of school and university records to join its ever growing education collection.
Researchers can use this new data to find ancestors who attended or taught at a variety of Educational establishments between the 1830s and 1930s. Also listed are the names of those who held high office in the institutions, such as the patrons, deans, visitors, professors, masters in the case of universities and the principles and governors in the case of schools.
Use these records to add colour to a family story and glean important information from the biographical details to use in further research.

More Scottish Catholic records added to FindmyPast
The latest releases from FindmyPast (www.findmypast.co.uk):
Scotland Roman Catholic Parish Baptisms
Over 236,000 additional records covering 146 parishes have been added to our collection of Scottish Catholic baptisms. Each result includes both a transcript and an image of the original document that will reveal a combination of your ancestor’s birth date, baptism date, baptism place and parents' names. Images may also reveal the names of godparents or sponsors as well as additional comments.
Scotland Roman Catholic Parish Marriages
A further 129,000 Scottish Catholic marriages are also available to search. These transcripts and images reveal when and where your ancestor was married as well as the names of their spouse and father. Images will often reveal additional details such as the names of witnesses and couple’s residences.
Scotland Roman Catholic Parish Burials
Discover where your Catholic ancestors were laid to rest with over 16,000 additional burial records. All of this week’s Scottish Catholic additions are exclusive to Findmypast and cover 124 parishes across the country. As well as birth year, death date, burial date and location, images may reveal their marital status, cause of death or additional comments.

Last but not least, a further 114,000 congregational records are now available to search. British & Irish newspaper update
This week sees 100,598 brand new pages joining The Archive, with updates to 14 of our existing titles, as well as five new titles joining our collection. Four new Scottish titles are now available to search; the Ayrshire Post, the Wishaw Press, the Irvine Herald and the North British Agriculturalist. This bi-weekly specialty title described itself as a ‘magazine of farming, gardening, forestry and rural economy.’ Rounding off our new publications for this week is another specialist title – Holmes’ Brewing Trade Gazette. This curious journal, published by one Joseph Holmes, a brewer’s chemist from Leeds, was a ‘monthly journal dedicated to the interests of Brewers, Publicans, Wine & Spirit Merchants.’

Update: Just received a response saying "You can see the source at the bottom left of the transcription page. One I have found shows as © Catholic National Endowment Trust Charity No. SCO 16650 (known as The Bishops' Conference of Scotland). So check that section please."
The thing is, you can only actually access the transcription page if you have a subscription. I currently don't. I've suggested they perhaps indicate it on their search page!

RAF and London records join Ancestry
Ancestry (www.ancestry.co.uk) has released three more major collections, two for London, and one for those with RAF members in their family.
UK, Royal Air Force Airmen Records, 1918-1940

This collection comprises records of Airmen serving in the Royal Air Force during the years 1918 up to, and including, 1940.
The Royal Air Force (RAF) was founded in 1918, after the uniting of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). The records are arranged by service number and include the following details, where available:
UPDATE: Sadly, you need a subscription to Fold3.com to view the images - I don't get the point of this. If it is not on Ancestry, why advertise that it is? Only the indexes are available on Ancestry. Disappointing.
London, England, School Admissions and Discharges, 1912-1918

This collection comprises School Admission and Discharges in London for the years 1912 to 1918. It contains details of just under 100,000 students from schools across London. In 1833, Parliament started to provide money for the construction of schools for poor children, although it was still largely a private affair. Mandatory schooling was a local decision until 1870, when children were required to attend from age 5 to 10. By 1918, education was required up to the age of 14.
These records are made up of lists of children who were admitted to and discharged from schools. When education was required, children could be discharged from their schooling if they were needed to work to help support the family. The records vary by school and some are more detailed than others. The records include (where available):
London, England, Poor Law School District Registers, 1852-1918

This collection comprises admission and discharges for Poor Law school districts in London for the years 1852 to 1918. It contains details of more than 219,000 students from District schools across London. After 1834, the Poor Law Commission required each union to set up a properly constituted residential school for pauper children with a salaried schoolmaster or schoolmistress. Pauper children were to receive both a basic education and industrial training to make them fit for employment. The 1844 Poor Law Amendment Act and 1848 District Schools Act gave the Poor Law Commissioners powers to combine parishes and unions into school districts which would establish a large residential school outside London for the care and education of all pauper children from the areas concerned. Seven Poor Law School Districts were formed in the metropolitan area.
These records are made up of lists of children who were admitted to and discharged from schools. When education was required, children could be discharged from their schooling if they were needed to work to help support the family. The records vary by school and some are more detailed than others. The records include (where available):

More English school records added to FindmyPast
The following English based records have been released on FindmyPast (www.findmypast.com) today:
National School Admission Registers & Log-Books, 1870-1914
Over 527,000 records schools from 8 separate archives across England have been added to the National School Admission Registers & Log-Books 1870-1914 collection. The collection, which was originally launched in September 2014, has had over 160,000 records added in this latest update and it now complete.
Worcestershire Baptisms
Over 8,900 records have been added to our collection of Worcestershire baptisms. The new additions cover the parishes of Droitwich St Andrew and St Nicholas between 1571 and 1900.
Worcestershire Marriages
Over 2,700 new records have been added to our collection of Worcestershire Marriages. The new additions cover the parishes of Droitwich St Andrew and St Nicholas between 1571 and 1900.

Ancestry to release Irish Roman Catholic records indexes
Things are getting very interesting on the Irish front - here's the latest announcement from Ancestry:
ANCESTRY TO LAUNCH IRISH CATHOLIC REGISTERS ONLINE
* Ireland Catholic Parish Registers to launch in March
* 10 million records will help create the largest collection of Irish registers available online
* Collection covers the period 1740 – 1900
* Baptism, Marriage and Burial records available
More than 10 million Catholic Parish records from Ireland are to be published online by Ancestry, the world’s largest family history resource. The collection means that Ancestry will have over 55 million Irish records and will provide the largest collection of Irish Catholic parish records available online.
The collection is made up of Baptism, Marriage and Burial records from over 1,000 Catholic parishes across the whole of the island of Ireland - both in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Baptism and Marriage records make up the majority of the collection and Burial records can be found primarily for parishes in the northern regions.
Ancestry has indexed records from over 3,500 parish registers. This is the first time that the collection has been indexed with the images linked online.
John Slyne, VP, International Operations at Ancestry comments: “The Ireland Catholic Parish Registers is the single most important collection needed to trace Roman Catholic ancestors in Ireland in the 1800s and we are delighted to make it available through Ancestry. Providing the very best Irish records to our members is important to us and this collection helps us do that, taking the total number of Irish records to over 55 million. It also means we continue to provide the largest online collection of Irish Catholic parish records available anywhere which is good for those in Ireland and also those across the World with Irish roots.

Tasmania, Victoria and New Zealand records added to Ancestry
Ancestry (www.ancestry.co.uk) has added four new sets of records for those with Australian and Kiwi based family:
Victoria, Australia, Lunatic Estates and Register, 1867-1906

The Tasmanian sets have been sourced from Tasmanian Archive and Heritage Office in Hobart, and the Victoria collection from the Public Record Office Victoria, North Melbourne, but the New Zealand collection does not have any source given, save to say that the records have been keyed as part of the World Archives Project.

Glamorgan schools activities in the First World War

English and Welsh school registers and log books on FindmyPast
FindmyPast (www.findmypast.co.uk) has launched a new collection, National School Admission Registers and Log-books 1870-1914, with records from schools in England and Wales. The company is working with 26 archives and schools south of the border, and this first batch includes material from 1500 schools included.

"Currently there are 2,562,402 records available to search from thirteen counties in England and Wales: Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Cambridgeshire, Cheshire, Devon, Glamorganshire, Hertfordshire, Huntingdonshire, Kent, Lancashire, Middlesex, Surrey and Wiltshire, and also Westminster. Updates to these records, adding further counties, will be published in 2015."
