Ancestry adds outward passenger lists collection for UK

Ancestry has released a new passenger records collection UK, Outward Passenger Lists, 1890-1960 at http://search.ancestry.co.uk/search/db.aspx?dbid=2997. Until now this collection has only been available online via FindmyPast (www.findmypast.co.uk). This means that Ancestry now has both incoming and outgoing passenger records for the period as recorded by the Board of Trade and now held at London's National Archives (BT26 and BT27).

The collection includes sailing from across Britain, and the whole of Ireland prior to Partition, with sailings for Northern Ireland only from 1922 onwards.

Colonial records released at TNA

The National Archives (www.nationalarchives.gov.uk) has granted access in its reading rooms to the first batch of records from its new colonial records acquisitions, aka the 'migrated archives'. The first release includes material from Aden, Anguilla, Bahamas, Basutoland, Bechuanaland, British Indian Ocean Territories, Brunei, Cyprus, Kenya, Malaya, Sarawak and Seychelles, with a guide on their use available to read at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documents/migrated-archives-guidance.pdf.

West Yorkshire archive new facility plans

The Yorkshire Evening Post has a piece on plans to produce a new £3 million archive base for West Yorkshire Archives, following apparent criticism from the National Archives over the current facilities at the current Registry of Deeds building on Newstead Road, Wakefield.

Christmas closures

The National Archives (www.nationalarchives.gov.uk) at Kew will be closed from Friday 23rd to Tuesday 27th December 2011 inclusive, and from Saturday 31st December 2011 to Monday 2nd January 2012 inclusive.

The ScotlandsPeople Centre (www.scotlandspeoplehub.gov.uk) in Edinburgh will be closed from 3pm on Friday 23rd December 2011 to Tuesday 27th December 2011 inclusive, and from 3pm Friday 30th December 2011 to Tuesday 3rd January 2012 inclusive.
