Family history research orders for Christmas

Having decided to finish a temporary job I was doing a bit sooner than initially planned, I am now back to working full time again as a genealogist - and just in time for Christmas!

If you are interested in having a family history researched for a friend or relative as a Christmas present, do drop me a note. The details of my research service are available at www.ScotlandsGreatestStory.co.uk, and bear in mind that it would be best to try to have any research completed by late November/first week December at the latest, if requiring printed and bound copies. If you would like to find out more, please do drop me a note, and I would be happy to discuss any requirements.

I am also contemplating a visit or two to Belfast in the next couple of months to carry out research at the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland, so can happily factor in requests for there also.

NB: if not seeking research for a Christmas present, but still seeking research to be carried out, do drop me a note! Just please bear in mind that if it is not urgent, Christmas research orders may by necessity take priority (for obvious reasons!).

Visit to Royal Kilmainham Hospital, Dublin

On Sunday my family and I made a visit to Dublin, partly to allow me to take some photographs for a forthcoming book, and partly to allow my boys a chance to see some of the key historic sites in the city, with this year being the 100th anniversary of the Easter Rising. Whilst in Dublin I took the opportunity to visit a site often overlooked by genealogists with regards to military research, the former Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin.

New website for my genealogy research service

I have been wanting to get to grips with the WordPress platform for some time, and having recently upgraded to a new computer, and having seen how awful my old research service website looks on it, I have decided to bite the bullet and go for it!

Details for my research service Scotland's Greatest Story can now be found at www.scotlandsgreateststory.co.uk - the same address as before, but it will now redirect to the new WordPress platform.

In addition to providing details of the service, the new site also has two new features. I have taken the opportunity to upload a few resources that I previously used to sell on CD, as well as a copy of a dissertation that I produced a few years ago. The most useful of these records will undoubtedly be transcripts of many records from the Weavers Incorporation of Perth, which I have been working on - on and off! - for the last few years. In addition to the records previously available on the CD are some additional sets which I had hoped to include on a second volume, which never quite happened. The resources currently there concern Perthshire, but I will likely add more in due course.

Secondly, there is a blog on the site, to which I will be adding many Scottish research themed posts in due course. To get it under way I have added a few previously written posts from my personal blog, and I will add more in due course, from time to time, as and when the mood takes me! This will be quite separate from my continued British GENES posts, and will focus specifically on Scottish and Northern Irish based topics.

Scotland's Greatest Story Facebook page

The Facebook page for my Scotland's Greatest Story research service (www.scotlandsgreateststory.co.uk) has now been upgraded to the new Timeline look - this is a new look being forced by Facebook on its users by the end of this month, so I figured I would get ahead of the game.

As well as providing details of my research services, I am now adapting the page to be a new Scottish based genealogy platform, carrying British GENES blog posts of interest, as well as tips and other relevant offerings for those with Caledonian based research. To simplify things, I have now deleted my old Scottish GENES Facebook page which I have not been using since the end of last year, following the introduction of British GENES. The new Scotland's Greatest Story Facebook page can be accessed at www.facebook.com/ScottishGenealogyResearch.

For British GENES, there is also a Facebook page available at www.facebook.com/BritishGENES, which will be undergoing a similar revamp soon.

Remember, Scotland's Greatest Story is YOUR story! (See what I did there?!) :)
