I announced the release yesterday of Masters and Mates certificates on Ancestry, but as I am currently enjoying a bout of jet lag in Canada I've just had another wee play with them, and have discovered something worth bearing in mind when searching them. As with Ancestry's military service records, it pays dividends to search pages both before and after the page you land on, rather than just following pages. I had another look on the master cert for a client's ancestor, and on the page before his cert have just found evidence to corroborate a story I discovered in a newspaper last week, concerning his having to abandon a sinking ship under his command - the document being a hand written account by the ancestor of what actually transpired! Magic stuff - so do look each ways!
