Friends of the National Archives now has over a thousand members

The Friends of the National Archives has now reached over 1000 members. The organisation is a registered charity which supports the Kew based archives' role in preserving and providing access to its substantial collections, with many initiatives including cataloguing and fundraising.

Congratulations to the organisation, further details for which can be found at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/get-involved/friends.htm - a story from the archive about its work is also available at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/news/939.htm.

Although I am aware of several local archives in Scotland having dedicated Friends groups - such as Perth & Kinross, Dundee, and Dumfries and Galloway - I am not aware that an equivalent body exists for the National Records of Scotland. If this is the case, why not? Would such a body be a good idea?

Now available for UK research is the new second edition of the best selling Tracing Your Family History on the Internet: A Guide for Family Historians, whilst my new book British and Irish Newspapers is also now out. And FindmyPast - please reinstate the original Scottish census citations on your new site.
