The Last Miners of Ayrshire's Doon Valley

Thanks to my local MSP Kenny Gibson for the following notice of a new book coming out, which may be of interest to those with mining ancestry, particularly in Ayrshire and the Doon Valley:

The Last Miners of Ayrshire's Doon Valley is a great new book by local author, Donald Reid.
Some of the stories are heart-warming and poignant. Others show the personalisation of human suffering and will make you weep and almost break you heart. In many ways it also reminds us that whilst life was tough in the coal mines of Doon Valley, miners were extremely resilient with a great sense of humour, caring men who gave mutual support and put family above all else.

Due to be published on 20 October 2015, the book is a hardback limited edition, costing £18 (UK only) including postage & delivery.

The book runs to 264 pages, with 36 chapters and some 150 photographs. To order a copy you will need to send a cheque or postal order payable to Donald L. Reid for £18 (this includes postage and packing within the UK), along with your name and address, post code, telephone number and email address. Donald is contactable on donaldleesreid@hotmail.com for any queries - an order form for the book can also be downloaded from www.facebook.com/donald.reid.1401?_rdr=p. Advance copies will be available from October 20th. Royalties from the book will be shared with local groups such as Dalmellington Band, Dalmellington (33rd Ayrshire) Scouts, Patna DS and DVFHG.
