New Scottish adoption unit at NRS

There's news from the National Records of Scotland that following the recent merger of the General register Office for Scotland and the National Archives of Scotland, the two institutions respective adoption units will now be merged into one office. (I must admit, I did not know the NAS had an adoption unit!)

Services from the unit will include:
* Registering current Scottish Adoptions, Scottish Parental Orders and certain Foreign Adoptions.
* Producing current Scottish adoption certificates for newly adopted children.
* Linkage of adopted people with their original birth details by post and in person. * This may also include showing the original birth entry in the Scottish birth register.
* Accessing Scottish Adoption court process papers.

A new appointment based interview service will also be introduced to enable adopted people to plan a visit to the Adoption Unit as well as a continuing commitment to offer a service to anyone who comes into the office unannounced.

For further information write to:

The National Records of Scotland Adoption Unit, Room 3, General Register House, 2 Princes Street, Edinburgh, EH1 3YY
