Yikes... I can never really gauge a sense of how well read or not this blog and its predecessor Scottish GENES were, as there seem to be so many different ways to measure it - but according to Genealogy in Time, in its Top 100 Most Popular Genealogy Websites list at www.genealogyintime.com/NewsStories/2012/Q1/top%20100%20most%20popular%20genealogy%20websites%20page3.html, this blog comes in at number 87 in the world.
The team took a look at websites across the world using Alexa traffic rankings, and have published their analysis methodology on their site - they've avoided platforms such as library and archives sites etc, so there are some obvious exceptions that I am sure would trounce many of us - e.g. TNA at Kew! But in total, some fifteen sites do feature from the UK - these are, with ranking: Ancestry (8), FindmyPast (13), Genes Reunited (16), Rootschat (34), FreeBMD (35), The Peerage (38), British Newspaper Archive (43), British History Online (49), Genuki (52), ScotlandsPeople (75), CWGC (84), British GENES (87), The Genealogist (88), British-Genealogy (92) and Origins (93). And an honourable mention for the Canadian based Anglo-Celtic Connections blog (57), which also covers British material.
Considering British GENES has only been around four months, that's quite a surprise, but hopefully the blog is ticking a few boxes - so thanks to all, and onwards and upwards!
(And if there are any features you want to see added, drop me a note!)

Well deserved Chris especially as you are a one-man band. Great stuff.
ReplyDeleteCheers Jill - I've no idea if it really means anything, but nice to know that at least someone is reading it! lol
