Irish wills calendars 1858-1922 now online

The National Archives of Ireland has now added the Calendar of Wills from 1858-1922 to its new genealogy platform at www.willcalendars.nationalarchives.ie/search/cwa/home.jsp

The calendars for the north are already online from 1858-1943 in a database format at the PRONI website at www.proni.gov.uk/index/search_the_archives/will_calendars.htm, but this is the first time the entries for the Republic of Ireland - or at least the counties that became the Republic - have gone online. The original northern images are also included up to 1917. The records for the Republic from 1923-1982 are already online via the National Archives of Ireland catalogue, or via a handy link on this blog (see top menu bar!).

As with the PRONI site, there is also a short gap after 1920 - my understanding from the PRONI team is that their version of these comes in a handwritten format, and have not been microfilmed. Something to do with a wee bit of trouble about that time!

My new book, Tracing Your Irish Family History on the Internet, is now available from Pen and Sword. My next Pharos Scottish course, Scotland 1750-1850: Beyond the Old Parish Registers, starts May 15th - see http://britishgenes.blogspot.co.uk/2013/04/scotland-1750-1850-beyond-oprs-starts.html. Time to smash a few brick walls...!
