England's archives now responsibility of TNA

The National Archives today takes over responsibility for England's archives, mainly as a result of the recent bonfire of the quangos by the Government. The leadership role of TNA will be phased in over the next six months, and comes at a time when the archive sector has never been under more threat. The body's role will be to "champion archives by demonstrating the value they offer society, representing the sector's views at government level and influencing policy formulation".
