National strike to affect archives next Wednesday

The National Records of Scotland (www.nrscotland.gov.uk) is stating that it "cannot guarantee that the Historical and Legal search rooms will be open as usual" next Wednesday 20th March, due to a nationwide strike by the Public and Commercial Services Union. It hopes to be able to offer access to digital images in the Historical Search Room and to catalogues and open-shelf library books. The ScotlandsPeople Centre (www.scotlandspeoplehub.gov.uk) is also advising "that due to industrial action we may not be able to provide a full service on Wednesday, 20th March."

Near London, the National Archives at Kew (www.nationalarchives.gov.uk) is advising people not to travel to use its facility on Wednesday 20th March unless necessary, stating that there will be delays at the site on various fronts - registering for tickets, document productions, and more. There is no word as yet from PRONI (www.proni.gov.uk) in Belfast.

If you are intending to visit any archive next Wednesday, please do check its website in advance for news of any possible disruption.
