From the London Borough of Bromley:
Bring your family history to life and uncover your ancestry at a taster session this month at one of the borough’s libraries, to celebrate Family History week.
The Library Service has teamed up with Family History Detectives to promote family history in the community by running courses at libraries in the borough for people who want to learn how to trace their ancestors. They will also be providing free access to PCs and online library resources.
"This is a wonderful opportunity to delve into your family history by discovering more about your ancestors. With history on your doorstep, why not come along for a taster session at one of our libraries and see what we can offer you?" said Simon Finch, Local Studies and Archives Manager at Bromley Central Library.
Courses, trips, events and activities are being planned, with family history packs, kits and guides being made available, to help you get the most out of your family history.
Taster sessions showing you how to trace your family history will be taking place at the following libraries on Friday 7 October:
9.45am - 10.45am Orpington Library
12.30pm - 1.30pm Bromley Central Library
3.00pm - 4.00pm Beckenham Library
If you are interested in attending a taster session, please turn up on the day.
Six week courses will also be running from Thursday 13 October at these three libraries. Courses will run each week with a break for half term (no session on 27 October) with the final session on 24 November. The cost will be £45.
