A quick update on my wife's forthcoming charity swim! It's set for this Saturday, and will be covering 1.7 miles from the island of Cumbrae to Largs, to raise money for Gillian's Saltire Appeal (www.gillianssaltireappeal.org.uk), a local charity that helps to provide respite care for families dealing with the scourge of cancer. Many people will be taking part in what has now become an annual event.
Claire did a practice swim last Friday covering half the distance - she took a bit longer to complete it than everyone else, but she completed it! So far she has raised more than £600 (including Gift Aid and offline contributions), but there's a still a few days to go before the main event...!
A huge thanks to all British GENES readers who have contributed so far - and it has been a substantial contribution, we're both overwhelmed (Claire's original fundraising target was £100!) - but if you would still like to contribute please visit her Just Giving page at https://www.justgiving.com/Claire-Paton1. Every donation, no matter how large or small, is greatly appreciated. If you do wish to contribute, and you are a UK taxpayer, please tick the box asking if you would like to provide Gift Aid as well - it won't cost you any extra, but the charity can claim a wee bit more back from the Government to boost its coffers (an extra 25p for every pound donated).
Once again a huge thanks - and roll on Saturday*!
(*Weather permitting - if it has to be rescheduled I'll let you know!)
Chris
