NRS acquires Melville Papers

Scotland's national archive, the National Records of Scotland (www.nrscotland.gov.uk), has acquired the Melville Papers. This is a major national collection which includes the papers of Henry Dundas, 1st Viscount Melville and his son Robert, 2nd Viscount, dating from 1775 to 1830, both of whom were effectively Secretaries of State for Scotland. The collection also includes later materials from the family, the entire range of documents and plans covering the years 1629-1939.

The full story of the collection, which also has some papers for an estate in Northamptonshire in England, can be read at www.nas.gov.uk/about/120703.asp. The collection can be searched via the catalogue at www.nas.gov.uk/catalogues/default.asp.
