For some time the only show in town in terms of a dedicated Irish genealogy magazine has been the excellent bi-monthly Irish Roots, but today sees the launch of a new monthly digital based Irish family history title, Irish Lives Remembered, available free of charge online.
If the title seems familiar, it is because it comes from the stable of the website of the same name (www.irishlivesremembered.ie), produced by Dundalk based Eileen Munnelly. Originally set up last year as a sort of online mass card memorial service, the site has recently refocussed its direction to offer a community based genealogical service, with discussion forums and more, and now a free to read monthly magazine.
The first issue has a brief introductory genealogical guide by Kevin McCormack, a look at the Irish DNA Atlas project, a tale of convict woman Catherine McMahon, news of the Gathering 2013, a focus on Cork, Megan Smolenyak looks at Annie Moore (Ellis Island's first immigrant arrival in 1892), and much more.
The magazine can be read through an online reader or downloaded in PDF format for your tablet device. Cracking stuff with a vibrant modern design, and well worth checking out!
